اللهم اني اعوذ بك من عين لا تدمع ومن قلب لا يخشع و من دعوة لا يستجاب لها

The Way I am Dressed

You look at me and call me oppressed,

Simply because of the way I'm dressed,

You know me not for what's inside,

You judge the clothing I wear with pride,

My body's not for your eyes to hold,

You must speak to my mind, not my feminine mold,

I'm an individual, I'm no mans slave,

 It's Allah's pleasure that I only crave,

I have a voice so I will be heard,

For in my heart I carry His word,

"O ye women, wrap close your cloak,

So you won't be bothered by ignorant folk",

Man doesn't tell me to dress this way,

It's a Law from God that I obey,

Oppressed is something I'm truly NOT,

For liberation is what I've got,

It was given to me many years ago,

With the right to prosper, the right to grow,

I can climb mountains or cross the seas,

Expand my mind in all degrees,

For God Himself gave us LIB-ER-TY,

 When He sent Islam,

 To You and Me!

Iam a Muslim

I am a Muslim

and Islam is my way of life.

It is my faith by my own will,

not by my parents'.

No, I don't feel as though I'm missing out on

"the fun."

Islam preserves my dignity and my honor by condemning dating, drinking, and the like.

Don't feel sorry for me because I do not date or because I do not wear shorts and tank tops.

I feel elevated to know that I have not been

enslaved by the male gaze.

Men do not see a pair of legs when they talk to me, they see me and what I stand for.

Don't assume I feel deprived because

I do not drink or eat pork.

These are all my own decisions to make.

The way I live my life can be chosen by

 no one but me.

Wearing the hijab has given me freedom from constant attention to my physical self.

Because my appearance is not subjected

to public scrutiny,

my beauty, or perhaps lack of it,

has been removed from the realm of

what can legitimately be discussed.

These rules are not forced upon me.

I do not feel as though I am being held back.

I know that I am free, and I am at peace.

May you also know peace ...

may you know and understand Islam-

and then, perhaps you'll be able to

understand me.

The Qur'an teaches us that men and women are equal, that individuals should not be judged according to gender, beauty, wealth, or privilege. The only thing that makes one person better than another is her or his character.

Women are not going to achieve equality with the right to bear their breasts in public, as some people would like to have you believe. That would only make us party to our own objectification. True equality will be had only when women don't need to display themselves to get attention and won't need to defend their decision to keep their bodies to themselves.

Hijab is not worn for men, to keep their illicit desires in check. Rather, Muslim women wear it for God and their own selves. Islam is a religion of moderation, of balance between extremes. Therefore, it does not expect women alone to uphold the society’s morality and uprightness. Rather, Islam asks men and women to mutually strive to create a healthy social environment where children may grow with positive, beautiful, constructive and practical values and concepts. Men are equally required to be modest and to conduct themselves responsibly in every sphere of their lives.
